OLIVELLA

VEGETAL SOAP FROM VIRGIN OLIVE OIL 100%

Soaps consist of an alkali salt of fatty acids that are contained like glycerines in the natural fatty substances.

Since soaps are obtained by saponification of different natural and synthetic fats and oils (from petroleum), they are blends of alkali salts of different fatty acids in varying percentages, depending on the raw material used.

HISTORY

The use of soap dates from the ancient past, probably in the region of Mesopotamia, (today's Syria), cradle of the most important Neolithic civilizations.

We believe that Romans learned from Greeks soap manufacturing, and during the excavations of Pompeii a soap factory completely equipped was discovered together with a quantity of soap escaped from the destruction.

Up XIV century, Italians and Spanish were the only soap producers, introducing it in industrial scale between XIV and XVI century; in this period the main ports like Genoa, Savona Marseille and Venice became proper soap "emporium".

The reason is that olive oil, that the Mediterranean area was rich of, was the only fatty material used to produce soap.

The row material high cost, the new availability of soda (instead of the wood cinders) led soap industry of the past century to leave noble olive oil for more low-cost seed oils, up to use fats of animal origin that now international market offers at very favourable conditions, like "waste" of an alimentation more and more rich in beef and pork meat.

Fortunately during these last years there was the reversal of the trend, both in the alimentary habit and in the care and selection of the products we use every day for body and face cleansing.

Before purely economic reasons, ever more often, we put the "health" ones that aim to the prevention from damages and to the body care.

In conclusion we tend to ameliorate the life quality in a broad sense, respecting the natural equilibrium.
The nowadays knowledge and technologies are not erased for an inconvenient useless and impossible return to the origin, if anything they are used to recover and exalt the best our tradition can offer.

Olivella results from this idea, a soap that meets the new needs and at the same time is a traditional and innovative product.
